  1. Struts Filter- This filter routes all incoming requests to struts.xml. struts.xml matches the actions and provides response accordingly.
  2. Welcome File List- this defines which file will be loaded on starting the application. We can have multiple welcome-file one followed by another.

struts.xml contains
  • Package - name="any unique name" extends="any other package or struts-default" namespace="optional (default namespace if not nemtioned)"
  • Action name="HelloWorld" when this action is performed it sends request to function sayHello of class com.ekiras.action.Action
    • Result- result="success" if the return type of method sayhello is equal to "success" then it will redirect to result.jsp page

This page is the welcome page in this example. It contains a text field that takes a name as an input and set's the value of useName fiels of Bean class on form submittion.

This page is loaded when the action HelloWorld is performed and the method sayHello() of class Action returns a string success.

This class has only one function sayHello() and it just returns a string success. It also contains an object of Bean class and its getter setters.
